I'm a little uncomfortable posting this, for a number of reasons.
- Given Toast's propensity for oddball philosophy, it's really easy to make jokes where I say "hey, look how unrealistic concept X vaguely resembles real-world practice Y! Oh, man, burn!" Cheap shots are too easy and they tend not to be funny.
- I'm not entirely sure how widespread the concept of high school student government is, and those not familiar with it won't get the joke.
- It will piss off people who are/were involved in student government who have no sense of humor.
- It will piss off libertarians who have no sense of humor.
- There's no art in the comic. Can it be called a comic if there's no art? I don't really care whether the label of "comic" applies, but it seems a little empty without any pictures.
But the first two thirds of this strip have been sitting in my notebook for over a week now, and this is the first thing I've been able to do with it. Plus, I'm late with today's update (Friday ended two hours ago for me, but hey, it's been a busy week at school) so I have to put something out. I think the punchline is enough of a twist to make up for point 1, and I guess point 2 can be resolved by reading the commentary. The people from points 3 and 4 probably aren't reading my webcomic. As for point 5, well, what do you think? Even if an episode is decidedly non-visual, should I make a point to include at least a scribble or two of Toast? Or is the occasional, infrequent text-only entry okay?

Oh, that angsty toast. Everyone knows there can't be a breeze at absolute zero. How silly!

I know the censor-an-apparently-innocent-image joke is played, but I couldn't resist throwing it in here. This is more or less how
my mornings go.

Those of you who don't use Internet Explorer: click on any comic to see something mildly neat. Sorry IE isn't supported for this one, but the way it supports CSS pseudo-classes doesn't allow for the effect. I wish I could implement it in IE because I'm not entirely sure if IE's behavior is non-standard or simply different from the others browsers', but I can't think of a way to do it that doesn't involve learning Javascript, and that's way more effort than I'm about to put forth.

I usually sketch out Toast's journals (and all my random ideas) on a steno pad, a bit larger than half the size of a normal sheet of paper. When I made these all I had with me were some spiral-bound index cards, so I took the smallness theme and worked it into a comic. Two comics, actually, to make up for the smallosity.

We're getting
adult with this one. Yeah, the doctor's a mushroom. No, it doesn't symbolize anything.
